Schonstedt magnetic locators at CFT

A magnetic locator needs no transmitter and no connection point: it reacts to iron itself. Buried valve caps, sunken manhole covers, boundary markers under the growth – Schonstedt has been building the instruments for decades that find such things in minutes instead of hours. Iron is all they find. Iron is all they need to find.

The Schonstedt range

SPOT and MAGGIE are the compact everyday instruments – switch on, walk the line, read the deflection. The GA range (GA-52Cx, GA-72Cd, GA-92XTd) is graduated by sensitivity, form factor and display: from the classic wand to the instrument for greater depths. What fits works yard, survey crew or network operation is settled in a short conversation.

What these instruments are used for

In as-built capture, the magnetic locator is often the first tool out of the van: before a route can be surveyed, the caps and covers the asphalt has swallowed must be found. We run Schonstedt ourselves – and therefore know which deflection is a cap and which is just a bottle top.

Introduction and training

Every instrument bought from us comes with an introduction – outdoors, on real targets. Reading the deflections is half the instrument’s value, and exactly that can be shown, not read up.

Service, repair and calibration

Service and repair run through the group’s workshop service with a direct line to the manufacturer – findings and costs before the work.

Frequently asked questions

Does a magnetic locator also find cables and plastic pipes?

No. It reacts exclusively to ferrous material – caps, covers, markers, posts. Cables and pipes need line location with transmitter and receiver; both together cover the construction site.

How deep does the search reach?

That depends on the mass and position of the iron part and on the instrument: a valve cap just under the asphalt is a clear target, a small bolt at one metre depth a task for the more sensitive GA models. Tell us what you are looking for – we tell you which instrument finds it.

Does reinforcing steel disturb the search?

Yes, heavily reinforced areas give a constant deflection. The craft lies in separating the target from the background noise – part of the introduction that comes with the purchase.
